The school is located on the Melba Hwy, Yering, just 2 km north of Coldstream heading towards Yarra Glen. The school was established in 1869 and from its inception has had a strong and ongoing relationship with the surrounding communities of the Yarra Valley. The current enrolment is 21 students.
Yering Primary School’s urban fringe location provides a diverse student body coming from working farms, vineyards and orchards, smaller hobby farms and the urban areas of Coldstream, Yarra Glen, Lilydale and Chirnside Park. This diversity means Yering Primary School has a very strong and active parent community, with a diverse range of skills and expertise. These skills have been invaluable to the community in the area of fundraising, major projects, acquisitions and ongoing maintenance.
Yering Primary School seeks to provide a stimulating educational setting for families seeking a small school environment. Yering Primary School offers parents an alternative to larger local schools through small multi-age grades and an open door policy where parents are encouraged to participate in school life. Parental participation is highly valued contributing to many aspects of the teaching program.
Yering Primary School is part of the Wollombi Cluster, a group of 10 small schools scattered throughout the Yarra Valley, combining as a cluster for a wide range of activities including inter-school sports carnivals, winter sports competition, cultural activities, camps and grade 6 transition programs.
Yering Primary School provides a broad curriculum via VELS the aim being to provide an excellent grounding in literacy and numeracy, extending and catering for student’s needs and abilities, allowing all to fulfill their potential while developing powerful personal and social skills of independence, leadership, resilience and responsibility.
