Principal’s message

Welcome to Yering Primary School.

I am very fortunate to be the Principal of an amazing small school in the beautiful Yarra Valley.  We have a wonderful group of students; all unique individuals.  Being a small school, the staff at Yering get to know all our students well, therefore we can ensure that we cater for their individuality.

Our school prides itself in providing all children with opportunities to participate in activities, so they can have many experiences within our educational setting, whilst providing a positive, caring and nurturing environment.

Our students mix very well in the yard, including cross age play.  For example, staff often observe a Grade 6 student helping a Grade 1 student how to bowl a ball in cricket, or shoot goals in basketball, as well as caring for each other when someone may be upset, or injured. On many occasions there are whole school games organised.

Our students come from a variety of settings – Yering, Coldstream, Yarra Glen, Chirnside Park & Mt Evelyn.

At Yering we follow the Victorian Curriculum with a focus on Literacy and Mathematics.  The MARC Van visits each week, with a teacher to conduct Library sessions and allows the students to borrow books. We also conduct Physical Education, Art, Music/Drama and Japanese sessions.  Our small numbers allow us to get around to everyone so we can provide extra support to those students in need.   We have an excellent integration aide, with many years experience, who works with students who receive disability funding, and also aids others in the classroom along with teaching staff.

We welcome you to come and visit our school at work, and play.  I would be delighted to show you around the school and discuss how we can help your child at Yering.
