Welcome to Yering Primary School.
I am very fortunate to be the Principal of an amazing small school in the beautiful Yarra Valley. We have a wonderful group of students; all unique individuals. Being a small school, the staff at Yering get to know all our students well, therefore we can ensure that we cater for their individuality.
Our school prides itself in providing all children with opportunities to participate in activities, so they can have many experiences within our educational setting, whilst providing a positive, caring and nurturing environment.
Our students mix very well in the yard, including cross age play. For example, staff often observe a Grade 6 student helping a Grade 1 student how to bowl a ball in cricket, or shoot goals in basketball, as well as caring for each other when someone may be upset, or injured.
Our students come from a variety of settings – Yering, Coldstream, Yarra Glen, Lilydale, Chirnside Park, Mt Evelyn, Woori Yallock and Healesville.
At Yering we follow the Victorian Curriculum with a focus on Literacy and Mathematics. The MARC Van visits each week, with 2 teaching staff to conduct Library sessions and allows the students to borrow books. We also conduct Physical Education, Art, Music/Drama and Japanese sessions. For students, who may need extra support in reading, we have a trained Bridges volunteer who works with students 1:1 to ensure they are not left behind. We have excellent integration aides who work with students who receive disability funding.
We welcome you to come and visit our school at work, and play. I would be delighted to show you around the school and discuss how we can help your child at Yering.
